Kawasaki Shipbuilding Secures Order for 145,000m3 LNG Carrier
In August 2004, Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation concluded a shipbuilding contract with Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha to build a 145,000m3 LNG carrier. Kawasaki Shipbuilding will build the carrier in its Sakaide Shipyard with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2007. The LNG carrier has four Moss spherical tanks with a cargo tank capacity of 145,000m3 developed by Kawasaki Shipbuilding. This order was received as a result of the companyfs excellent technological prowess and reliability in building and maintaining LNG carriers that has been cultivated over many years. The carrier has secured its large 145,000m3 cargo capacity while maintaining a conventional hull size that allows the carrier to enter the worldfs primary LNG terminal ports. This order raises the order backlog for large LNG carriers at Kawasaki Shipbuilding to seven vessels. The company will continue to proactively carry out the building of various gas carriers including vessels to transport LNG, which is expected to experience a growth in demand as a clean energy source.
