Receives Large-Scale LNG Carrier Order |
Kobe,
July 27, 2006 - Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corporation
announced today that it has received an order
for a 153,000 m3 LNG carrier from Tokyo LNG
Tanker Co., Ltd. and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK
Line). The proprietary carrier will be built
at Kawasakifs Sakaide Shipyard in Kagawa,
with delivery scheduled for March 2009.
The 289.5 m ship will equipped with three
stretch Moss spherical tanks and one conventional
Moss spherical tank. The stretch tanks each
have an additional 2 m high cylinder that
enables increases in cargo capacity.
Kawasaki Shipbuilding was selected for its
superior LNG carrier technology, highly reliable
construction and maintenance capabilities,
as well as for its design enhancements, which
allow a capacity increase of 8,000 m3 LNG
on a vessel with the same hull size as a conventional
145,000 m3 LNG carrier. This enables the carrier
to enter most of the major LNG terminals worldwide.
Kawasaki now has an order backlog of eight
vessels for its large-scale LNG carriers.
The Company will continue its aggressive pursuit
of LNG and other gas carrier orders as demand
rises for these clean energy sources. |
